Selling products alongside booked services

Add retail products to a booked service checkout while keeping the receipt, product record and stock count clear.

Add a retail product as its own line at checkout for a booked service. The client sees the service and item separately; the business gets a product sale to compare with its stock record. Start from the appointment, choose the actual product and quantity, then review the combined cart before payment.

Make the product easy to identify

Give each retail item a clear name, price and stock identity. Make variants such as size or shade easy to distinguish at the counter. Fresha’s product records provide fields for a barcode, SKU and retail price, with optional stock-quantity tracking. Keep catalogue details current so staff can select the correct item at checkout.

Distinguish take-home products from supplies used during a service. Decide how each is recorded so staff do not sell a convenient but incorrect catalogue item just to adjust stock.

Review the combined cart

Open the completed appointment for checkout; the client and services are already in the cart. Add the product, confirm its variant and quantity, and check the price with the client.

If the product is unavailable, use the POS’s supported process for the actual item or arrange a traceable later sale. Check that a product-only discount applies to the product line rather than the whole visit. Inspect the itemised receipt before completing payment.

Keep product results separate

A combined payment need not mean combined reporting. Fresha’s performance summary reports total service sales and total product sales separately. Its sales summary can group sales by item type, including services and products.

Fresha’s performance summary classifies products added during appointment checkout as upsell items. That label tells you when the item was added; it does not show who recommended it or why the client bought it.

Before setting product targets, decide who should receive credit for a sale and check what the POS records. In a demonstration, try a service with one product and a product-only discount, then a return. Compare the receipt, product report and stock count.
